Mileage Log & Claim Calculator

Add each business trip — date, where you went, why, and how many miles — and this tool works out what you can claim using HMRC's Approved Mileage Allowance Payment rates, then lets you download the whole log as a PDF.

It's built for the self-employed and employees who use their own vehicle for work and need a proper record, not just a single total. HMRC expects mileage claims to be backed by a contemporaneous log of individual trips, so building that log as you go — rather than reconstructing it at year end — is worth the habit. Nothing you enter is saved or sent anywhere; everything happens in your browser.

This tool creates a simple mileage log and claim estimate using HMRC's standard Approved Mileage Allowance Payment rates — it isn't tax or legal advice. Keep accurate, contemporaneous records and confirm your claim meets HMRC's rules before submitting it. Nothing you enter is saved or sent anywhere.

The 45p rate only applies to your first 10,000 business miles in the tax year — this tells the calculator how much of that you’ve already used.

How this works

  • 1Enter your name, vehicle type and (if it's a car or van) how many business miles you've already claimed this tax year.
  • 2Add a row for each trip — date, from, to, purpose and miles — and add as many as you need.
  • 3The calculator totals your miles and applies HMRC's current rate: 45p per mile for a car or van up to 10,000 business miles in the tax year, then 25p, or a flat 24p for a motorcycle and 20p for a bicycle.
  • 4Download the finished log as a PDF, ready to keep as your supporting record.
