What are cookies

Cookies are small text files placed on your device that help websites function and provide useful information to the site owner.

What we currently use

FindTaxHelp.co.uk uses:

  • Essential local storage — a small entry saved in your browser (not a cookie) to remember your cookie preference itself, so we don’t ask again on every visit. This is always on, since the site can’t function correctly without it.
  • Enquiry source (session storage) — when you first arrive, we note in your browser’s session storage (not a cookie) the page you landed on, the website that linked you here and any campaign tags in that link. It is cleared when you close the tab, and it’s only sent to us if you choose to submit an enquiry, so we know how people find the site.
  • Google Analytics 4 — helps us understand how visitors use the site (pages viewed, general location, device type), so we can improve it. The Google Analytics script isn’t loaded at all, and sets no cookies, until you choose “Accept all” on the cookie banner. If you choose “Necessary only,” Google Analytics does not load or track your visit. We don’t send the town or postcode you type into our search boxes to Google Analytics.

The Google Analytics cookies, set only after you choose “Accept all,” are “_ga” and “_ga_<ID>”, provided by Google, which each last up to 2 years. We don’t use advertising or remarketing cookies.

Managing cookies

You can change your choice at any time using the “Cookie settings” link in the footer of every page, which reopens the cookie banner. If you switch to “Necessary only,” we stop Google Analytics and delete its cookies (those whose names begin with “_ga”) from your browser. Most web browsers also allow you to control or delete cookies through their settings, usually found in the “options” or “preferences” menu. Blocking some cookies may affect how parts of this website work.
